"Speaker is an actor – Edsel Little, stage name is Eddie Little Sky 51 He was born in Oglala community, and has been an actor for 27 years. Tells the story of his entrance into Hollywood. Took a job at Disney and eventually met Walt. He did a lot of pictures for Disney. His wife is a cartoonist for Disney, and is also Sioux. His wife and kids come back to the reservation every year, but he didn’t. Then, his brother died and he came back, and after that felt he was being drawn back to the land. He says he stayed in Hollywood so long for the money. He was raised by his grandfather and used skills his grandfather taught him to make a career. He then talks about the indigenous groups and clubs in LA. 75000 Natives in LA. Talks about experience growing up in a Catholic boarding school. (24:30) Move on to talking about the Bear Bute runs. Bear Bute is a state park but he says should be religious land. Mention of Devils tower/ medicine men (26:00) He is drawn back to tradition after years in Hollywood. Thinks he kept this connection in part because his grandfather – John Colhoff – was an Oglala historian. Move on to talk of the navy This section ends with the interviewer looking at the Bear Bute runners and describing the scene. New speaker- Roger Ironclad Reviving Tokala Society (29:57) – One of the seven societies Pondering how to get young Indigenous people to respect tradition. Thinks they have to have pride in themselves Experienced discrimination, and had Christianity forced on them. Thinks the basic beliefs are the same. Believes a traditional government would be better than the IRA – this way each community could take care of their own. Speaker is nervous to talk around cameras. (41:00) meaning of the sacred pipe, and the learning that can be done. Speaker is teaching others from knowledge learned from the elders. (43:00) Further discussion of Sacred Pipe. The interviewee shares his opinion on what the other interviewees have said. (48:31) Discussion of the speaker's morning prayers. Moves on to talking about his family. His wife works for the VIA. New Speaker Dave Archibald (51:26) Speaker shares his views on the purpose of the Sacred Hoop. Discusses the welcoming back of the runners. (53:44) They talk about Jimmy DuBray, the Medicine Man who was present. He lives at Standing Rock. The white men are keeping the Indigenous people away from the Black Hills, even though it is important spiritual land. (58:00) More discussion of Jimmy DuBray and his processes after the run. "
