"Begins with Stanley telling a story of a buffalo scull. A lawyer is looking for it, because it was stolen. He moves on to talking about a pipe that is kept in the family.

The speaker mentions his wife Cecilia and his work as a medicine man (5:30)
Talks about his son Stanely Jr, then changes the subject to people coming here to fast (11:56) talk about the pipe religion. It comes from the heart. There is no book, it is passed by word of mouth.

Thinks there are too many Christian religions surrounding them. Stanley got baptized as a baby.

Stanley believes drinking is getting worse in the community. Says the white men brought killing, hatred, and jealousy.
Says he has a tough time living here. He leases some land so an indigenous rancher once a year. He doesn’t get an income. He gets commodities from the government and $35 of federal aid. Doest even have 2000 a year. His wife is a truant officer, but lost job until the following year. Says Regan cut a lot of jobs.
Switch to new speaker Sophie is 65. They are in Little Eagle. She only gets social security and food stamps. She has 5 children and 15 grandchildren. He husband has been dead for 5 years.
Says she doesn’t know much about ancestors.
She is secretary of the elderly social group, and attends the ceremonies and dances twice a year.
She also says the language is gone and drinking is a huge problem, even among her children.
Heats house with oil she gets free with energy program
Showing the interviewer, the quilts that she sells for 75 or 80
Her daughter is a teacher at the eagle school
Other daughter converted to Mormonism at BYU and is married to a white man now.

Father Hobbs is a white man in charge of the church.
It is his opinion “good Indians” would say government programs should end. Says “They don’t know anything about money” He believes white people work harder – continues with racist rhetoric. "
