Description
Tableau 16 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. Landscape depiction of the summer village, Mih-Tutta-Hangkusch, a village of earth lodges high above cliffs overlooking the Missouri River, near Fort Clark. Mandan women are depicted here with their bullboats on the Missouri River. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
