Summary June 12, 1859, letter to Bvt. Lieut. Col. Daniel Ruggles, also of the 5th Infantry, who was on sick leave of absence, 1859-1861, relaying camp news. Subjects discussed include mule thefts, local Indians requesting payment for grazing, dust at Camp Floyd, the possibility of the regiment remaining in the valley for the summer, and mail delivery problems. Hill also mentions the Salt Lake City postmaster's departure and asks Ruggles to help a Mr. Anderson enter business. 
Biographical/Historical Note U.S. Military Academy graduate (1855) and second lieutenant, 5th Infantry (1855-1861), serving on the frontier with the Utah Expedition, 1857-1859.
