Summary November 11, 1755, letter from Thomas Pownall at Albany to Sir William Johnson, British superintendent of Indian affairs who was at Lake George in command of forces assigned to take Fort Carillon and Fort St. Frederic from the French, regarding matters related to the war. Pownall thanks Johnson for information regarding the route from Fort Edward to the Mohawks.  He also informs Johnson that Charles Hardy (governor of New York) wished to confer with him about Indian affairs, advises on the matter of French prisoners, and warns of an imminent French attack. 
Biographical/Historical Note New Jersey lieutenant governor, 1755-1756, who having no duties, was able to travel the colonies and study their defense and administration.  Later assistant to Lord Loudoun (commander in chief of British forces in North America) and governor of Massachusetts.  Author of The Administration of the Colonies (1764).
