Biographical/Historical Note A native of southern Illinois, Lou Conte danced in musical theater on Broadway and in international tours before moving to Chicago in 1972. He founded the Lou Conte Dance Studio in 1974. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago grew out of his teaching and quickly gained an international profile. He retired as artistic director in 2000. (2024)
