Biographical/Historical Note Chicago native, Joel Hall, is a dance performer, choreographer, and teacher of urban jazz dance. Hall began his dancing career in 1968, studying under Ed Parrish. The following year, he moved to New York City, where he studied with Denise Jefferson. Returning to Chicago, he earned a degree in sociology from Northeastern Illinois University. Hall founded Joel Hall Dancers & Center (JHDC) in 1974 with Joseph Ehrenberg. As choreographer and then Artistic Director, Hall created over 70 dances for the company. Hall has instructed dance at institutions across the Midwest and conducted classes around the world. He became Artistic Director Emeritus at JHDC in 2018. (2024)
