Summary Transcriptions of essays, poems, and letters by Giovanni Ciampoli, written in different hands on odd sheets of paper and unbound gatherings, brought together after Ciampoli's death, probably between 1649 and 1666. His religious poems include "Meditationi davidiche in tempo di calunnie"; "Meditatione sopra il Salmo 113"; "Hinno secondo in lode del Beato Luigi Gonzaga"; "Cantico delle benedittione", written for the coronation of Urban VIII in 1626; and "Coro musicale de i pastori di Bettelem nella notte di Natale". There is also an epic poem dedicated to Cardinal Francesco Barberini, "nel suo retorno delle due legationi di Francia e Spagna"; and other poems such as "La potenza repudiata: al Signor Don Carlo Bossio"; "Canzone in morte della Signora Contessa Livia d'Arco Ferrarere", "Canzone contro gl'invidiosi", and "Canzone al Signor Vicenzo Cappone, in lode della fatica". Prose pieces include an essay, "Discorso della mortificatione", and some of Ciampoli's correspondence with Cardinal Antonio Barberino and Cardinal Spada (1636), and King Władystaw IV of Poland (1638). Also included are an "argomento" for an epic poem on the Huns which Urban VIII proposed to write; hymns for Maddalena Cesi on the day on which she became a nun; two moral poems "Disprezzo della corte e delle ricchezze" and "Contro l'infedelta degl'amici in corte"; two musical dramas, "Le vendemmie di Castel Gandolfo" and 'Le nozze di Bacco e della Neve"; and a choral dialogue, "La ninfa del Peru".
