SKYLINE VILLAGE CHICAGO NEWSLETTERS
FOUR STORIES
2018 and 2020
This is a collection of four feature articles that I did as a volunteer for the Skyline Village Chicago Newsletter.
Skyline Village is a nonprofit social organization for folks over 50 who live primarily in the Streeterville and Gold Coast areas of Chicago. It is part of the nation-wide Village-to-Village Network -- a consortium of close to 100 or so “intentional villages” without walls fostering social connectivity for older people.
Each Villages is an individual community-based, nonprofit grassroots organization that connect members to a wide array of support services, educational opportunities and social events designed to enhance the quality of life for older adults and help them live independently as they age.
My husband, Roger B. Johnston, and I, were among the founders of Skyline Village Chicago, in 2007. Roger, a public relations executive, served as a Chairperson of the City of Chicago Advisory Council on Aging from 1994-1996. The Advisory Council advised the City of Chicago Department on Aging. Its membership was comprised of a cross section of Chicagoans appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Three of the articles are about places of interest in the Chicago area. The fourth is a consumer service piece warning about telephone scammers.
The Skyline Village Chicago Newsletter is distributed to members but also to nonmember older adults – and younger folks – in the Streeterville community.
