User-Contributed Transcription Truly -Truly has it been said that "man's happiness does not consist in his outward circumstances; and that all the advantages of what I've called good fortune may bring nothing but wretchedness instead of adding for a single moment to his happiness."The germ of happiness lies within, and nothing external can of itself contribute to our enjoyment. Wealth honors and sincere in various pursuits may appear to be the principle source of enjoyment, but all of these without the heart is right and peace resigns within will not produce happiness. It is absurd to suppose that it can exist either in houses, lands or any of the good thing of this world but that they earn and do contribute to man's happiness when he is what he should be I will not sing. If we be happy our happiness must be in our hearts, must spring from within. If we have a mind to see wealth as it should be, if we are always sure to use moderately what we have it does then contribute to our happiness but how often do we see those with more than a competency sunk in misery and awareness. The passions become stronger as they are gratified and it is out of the power of fortune to render those happy who are corrupt and full of ungodly passions. Our every day experience furnishes us with instances which go to prove the truth of what has been said namely that when envy hatred malice or any of the evil passions exist within it an impossible for that person to be happy through surrounded by all that wealth can listen and also that pure happiness can be found where fortune has not smiled if the mind is nicely adorned with virtuous and contended feelings.
