Summary Unpublished essay in favor of an open immigration policy for the United States.

Biographical/Historical Note William Sheldon was born in England on 17 November 1762 and educated at Oxford University. He moved to the United States and lived in North Providence, Rhode Island, for several years. From approximately 1809 to 1810, Sheldon was an editor of Massachusetts spy, a newspaper published in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was elected as a member of the American Antiquarian Society in 1813, at which time he resided in Jamaica. Sheldon died on 28 June 1822 in London.
