User-Contributed Transcription 4 I want to arrange to have some one in the house while I'm away, if possible. Midge had one kitten the other day - Monday or Tuesday, a female, gray & white. I had put a box out in the garage that my new pressure cooker came in. She adopted it and is very happy in it. She nurses her daughter, the white cat, Bookie, who will have kittens in a few days - as well as her own scrawny little thing. There are 2 or 3 bushels of navels left altogether but on different trees at ungetatable places. There is quite a crop of Kings, but I can't be sure of getting a Negro to pick them, and I won't ask the H.S. boy again, as it is too hard work for him - The Schuylers came back for one night, took the 2 bu. of navels and departed yesterday 6:30 a.m. The assessor called yesterday aft - it is now Friday a.m. - and reduced the valuation $100. so it is now $400. for the acre. He paid no att. to the trees. He said "a grove in town doesn't mean a thing". Been busy all morning made gelatin salad with pineapple, carrots, King oranges with lemon and orange juice. Wish you had it - Much love, Mother.
