But just as I was ready to read it - after having been put off a whole day or more - some of the delegates who didn't want the paper read informed me that my train was leaving in a few minutes and I wouldn't have time to give it and catch the train. One prominent Chicago woman offered to pay my fare on the sleeper if I would stay over. But I was afraid I would displease my boss if I staid so long, so I gave the paper to someone else to read - like a big fool - and went back without getting the glory that would have been mine if I had read it myself. This woman had a paper in rebuttal to read, and did read, and of course read her own in a self-confident way that won the applause and anti-Socialist sentiment. While she read mine - so I was told - in a blundering way that took all the force out of it. I was much interested in your description of the old building, and am glad you saw it. I hope the Governor said something worth while in his talk. And I hope that Malcolm got to the meeting - Please let me know - and if he has the book - under cover. I want him to have mine for all of you to read if he hasn't. So sorry to hear that Peter is numbered among
