User-Contributed Transcription Hampden Feb. 4, 1850My Dear Mrs. Furber Rec'd I tell you how rejoiced I was to heare from you! and although I have not had an opportunity to write ere this my mind has been with you almost continually since you left, - knowing the feeble state of your health we feared the result but little did we think that the mournful intelligence of your dear brothers death would reach us so soon, we heard of it a few weeks before you wrote. I could scarcely believe it; so sudden and all his friends were so confident that his life might be spared many years but our Heavenly Father "who doeth all things well" in his infinite wisdom saw fit to take him to a happier home a blessed exchange for which he was well prepared. I know it must seem almost heart-rending to part with such a brother and one so dearly loved around whom so many fond hopes were clustered whose whole sickness seemed characterized by such sweetness and forgetfulness of self. On hearing of his death my thoughts instantly reverted to that line "Sweet is the scene when Christians die" and I felt that his was the death of the righteous. O what a blessed privelege is - must have been
