User-Contributed Transcription My dear Lucy After so long a time of letter silence between us I have actually, upon this Sabbath day attempted an opening of our former, to me, interesting and profitable correspondence. Nearly six months have elapsed since we have written each other; but Lucy I have all the while felt that it was a duty and privilege, for the neglect of which I was suffering the loss of much enjoyment: and it that were the only misstep of which I had been guilty I should be spared, a deal of remorse and mortification which I now suffer. I have very willingly departed from the straight and narrow path I was down whose ways are ways of pleasantry and all whose paths are peace.
