User-Contributed Transcription Bangor October 12th 1840Respected Friend I trust you will not judge me to have been insincere when I intimated that it would give me much pleasure to hold a correspondence with you because I have neglected so long to write. My reason for this delay is that since I last saw you I have been altogether unsettled going from place to place, untill within a few days. You see by my date that I am not, as I expected to be, in Massachusetts. Before I left for Mass. measures were adopted to continue the Classical school another year and I concluded on the whole that it might be as well or better for me to return here then remain there. I expect now to remain here untill next Autumn when life and health permitting I shall probably go to Yale. I found on my return to B. two members of my Sab. school Class remaining Miss Spooner and Miss Webster. It is now increased by three young ladies about your age, and I would they were altogether of your mind in respect to loving & serving God. But alas it is far otherwise, They are each without a hope in the Saviour's atoning blood, and only one manifests in any considerable degree, that interest in her lessons I could wish, and neither for the salvation of their souls. Do pray for us, for me, that I may be divinely assisted and faithful in presenting to them the claims of God for the affections of their hearts to be placed on him & not on the things of Earth. And a Saviour's dying love as exhibited in the garden & on the Cross,
