Description
Documents folded and stored in two contemporary burlap pouches with labels, of the sort used by judges and notaries to store legal documents; for this form of document storage, see Racine, Les Plaideurs, Act I, scene IV, and the print of Abraham Bosse, L'Etude du Procureur, from his series Les metiers, 1635.
Summary
10 documents (smaller pouch) from a 1644 lawsuit concerning property of Francois-Christophe-Philippe de Tournon, Seigneur de Meyres and Baron de Rotourtour; 11 documents (larger pouch), mostly titles for benefices of the church of Lyon granted to Edme de Simiane and Gabriel de Simiane in 1622; the last document is a 1636 list of marriage contracts concerning Simiane family members in the sixteenth century.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Tournon and Simiane families were united by adoption in 1748.
