Summary Talk, Sept. 28, 1789, by Piomingo to Joseph Martin, a long-time Cherokee agent, negotiator and signer of the 1783 and 1786 treaties with the Chickasaw, and brigadier general of the North Carolina militia. Delivered at Martin's home on the Long Island of the Holston while Piomingo was travelling to see the "Great Warrior" (George Washington?) in New York, the talk was intended for North Carolina governor Samuel Johnston, from whom Piomingo sought assistance (powder and bullets) for an attack on Creeks who had ambushed and killed two whites and two Chickasaws en route to Cherokee talks the previous spring. Piomingo offered to pay for the ammunition in skins, furs, or horses.

Biographical/Historical Note Chickasaw chief. The leader of the pro-American Chickasaw faction, Piomingo signed treaties with Virginia in 1783 and the United States in 1786 (Hopewell), opposed the Spanish-allied Creek chief Alexander McGillivray who attempted to unite the southern Indians in a war against the U.S., and led Chickasaw warriors in Gen. Arthur St. Clair's northwestern campaign in 1791.
