Dear Albina As I have such ampile room & accommodations for writing all by myself, Isaac being gone up to Centralia & Mitchell down to Big Muddy so that I have "more to [[?]] or make afraid" & it is now but 8 1/2 o clock so I will begin a letter to you, because I have a kind of an inclination to do so, not because I have anything in particular to write, not having yet received any from you since I wrote last, but I suppose there is one on  the way & Isaac will probably bring it down from Mt Hawkins on his way home from Centralia. We had  quite a nice little shower night before last with strong wind & thunder & lightning which cooled the air so that the thermometer was down to 68 in the morning & only up to 84 today, now it is at 72 but there was not rain enough to do much good to vegetation in fact corn is pretty much past cure people about here have given up all expectation of raising ay corn & they are selling off their stock. There have been four droves [[?]] here within a week, a good many of the most fore handed, farmers have old corn enough to last another year but they won't sell a bushell & it is hard to buy even a few bushells to feed homes (every body depends mostly on corn here not only to fat hogs but to feed cattle & homes, as well as to make corn [[?]] to eat themselves or nothing for themselves to eat, smoked hay & corn
