User-Contributed Transcription Tell George he may have my gun for ten dollars it cost me about 15 when it was new, I was offered 14 1/2 for it once the gun smith at Bangor when he put a new tube into it, said it was worth 12 dollars as guns were then but George my have it for 10.
I don't think it best to sell the wood at present it is so low it may be higher this fall if not I think it best to pack it away in a snug dry place and let it stay till next season, they say it gains in weight enough to pay the interest
I want to know [[?]] about the crops. Cattle sheep lambs to & every thing it has been so long that I have most forgot how things look about there. I hope Charlie will take hold of his book and learn to read I don't like to have him behind all the little boys but perhaps when he gets started he will get along better. We had a letter from Mother & Lucy yesterday I am very sorry to hear that little Percie was so sick I hope he is better before now I have just written a piece of a letter to Mother & Lucy & Ehab. I have not done much but write today
I should like to step in and see you the next of the [[?]], it seems mother had to have ones own children forget them & to be a stranger to ones own family I shall not decide for certain when I shall come home until I have an answer to this & hear something about what Walter will do and how you can do with George, come home when I may you had better get George to stay if you can and get wood all prepared for winter & the wood shed filled up somehow or a winter supply. Yours C W. Rich
