User-Contributed Transcription It is no matter how soon yo engage a man for next summer if you can get a good one  Franklin [[Hart?]] wold just the man if you can get him or I suppose John [[Hart?]] would do   I expect we shall have to buy or take a yoke of cattle  it will be very difficult to get along without as we have no Nelly to do every thing
If you buy or take on cattle to keep out it will take a good deal of hay & if you should be very short perhaps it would be best not to buy or take Oxen but let the farming go  It is no great object "any how" (underlined)  it costs about as much as it comes to to raise any thing in Maine except hay  If we buy Oxen at all I think it as well to buy good cattle such as will sell readily at any time or else young likely cattle that will grow large
I should like to hear more partickularly how you get along  how much the Pork ways  how much of the hay & corn &c is gone & how you all get along in doors & out  If Charlie goes to school he must be careful not to go out in the show & get wet and get cold. it will be exercise enough going & coming from school without playing too hard but if he does not go to school must study sharp at home  you must all be careful of your health
Can Charlie read in the Testament yet  can Josie tell his letters & can Mary talk any yet &c &c &c
I suppose Mother has gone to Bangor before this time
Your Affectionate Husband
