Dear Jack & Gladys,
It was sad to hear of the death of your daughter, and to know what your recent life must have been like. I guess your family and my own have been picked for too much of death. There's nothing I can say that wouldn't be awfully inept, except I'm feeling for you both and wish to God it hadn't happened.
My mother died ^ this Dec 31st, in Oshkosh. (It was also cancer.) I had gone back to see her at Thanksgiving, and then returned to help my father to care for her (he is 80 yrs. old and was tending her round - the - clock at home, as she was unwilling to go to the hospital). After mother's death, we brought my father back to San Diego. We're hoping he'll remain here and so far he seems content to do so. I think you'd like him, Jack; he's a former foundry-worker and has a pretty keen sense of how things measure up for the working people. Maybe we'll all be able to get together soon.
I'll close for now and write more when I get my brain cleared up a little. Meantime, stay well and keep punching!
P.S. I agree with you about Farrell vs. Bellow!
 Love,   Mary Redding
