Description The R. R. Donnelley Gallery

Explore the 125-year evolution of the Newberry from its 1887 opening as a “Library of Reference” to its 2012 presence as a renowned research institution and “center for the humanities” that remains free and open to the public. This exhibition draws upon unique letters, photographs, and other materials from the library’s own archives to reveal new perspectives on the Newberry’s past and the development of its current programs and collections.

Sponsored by the Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, this exhibition is part of the Newberry’s 125th anniversary; it complements The Newberry 125, an exhibition of objects from the library’s collection.
