place to be seen for one year. As to those children's stories I collect, everyone seems to like them. As you know aside from the experience with one agent, I sent them to one publishers namely Doubleday. After holding these for about 7 weeks they finally sent an acknowledgement saying they required still more time to give the stories adequate consideration. I gathers they were holding them to discuss along with other manuscripts for consideration when compiling their next season list. They kept the stories still another month and then returned them with this statement. "We have read children's stores for adults and regret that after careful consideration we are unable to fit it into our list." etc. In a way I can see their point. They do need assurance that books they publicize as coming out will be ready and since these stories depend on my finding articulate children, in addition to recognizing a good one when I hear it, they can't be guaranteed for any date deadline. I'm sure they would bring in as great financial returns to a publisher as the usual children's stories, and more, as they would have an adult market as well as one for children. So I guess the thing for me to do is concentrate on getting more of these before tying up my time with one publisher after another or to send those I have to a magazine. You might suggest which would be interested in the stories I have?
