Description

Not to be confused with another work of the same title published in 1619 (cf. R. Arbour. L'ere baroque en France, no. 9463); or the Proces d'amour by Antoine Nerveze, published in 1630 by Antoine Estienne (cf. Brunet Suppl., v. 2, col. 305; and J. Gay. Bibliographie des ouvrages relatifs a l'amour, V:184).
Summary
The poem, consisting of some 8346 10-syllable lines, and written in several different hands, begins with the author's preface on the first [5] leaves, a blank leaf, and then [8] leaves containing a summary of the story of Dynamis and Hyle, who marry their two daughters, Periousie and Calistee, to Homophron and Gnostie, the two sons of Noemon and Physie. Another character in the poem is Aselgeee, out-of-wedlock daughter of Dynamis and the beautiful Argie, whom Dynamis discovered sleeping in a thicket while out walking one day. The poem itself is arranged in eight books, approx. 30-32 lines per page; and includes the author's corrections, insertions, and additions, some written, some pasted into the text.
