User-Contributed Transcription his first wife who he had married about three weeks before leaving for service, What made things worse he found he had a son by her. Of course, for some reason known only to himself, he didn't tell me himself about any of this. I guess he thought his troubles were his own and he had no right to bother anyone else with them. I was eighteen then and Bill sang his way right into my heart. That's why I told you before he was very special to me. This probably sounds rather bold since I married my present husband in late 1954 but I am only trying to explain why I can't accept that Bill killed himself. I love and respect my husband, Mr. Conroy, but Bill will always be with me.
I got to know him well the year and a half we went together. One of my best girlfriends schoolmates met her husband through Bill.
As I mentioned before, when I first met him he was nervous and couldn't stay in one place very long at a time but as we got better acquainted and he found that I was willing to listen to him when he felt like talking he told me about his family, but mostly about his love of music; how Tonney Burton had taught him all he knew about it but there was one thing Tonney couldn't have taught him. No one could teach him to sing the was he did, putting his love and sorrows all to music that came from his heart. No one who heard him could fail to hear it and he could make you laugh or cry just as easily with music. That
