In general, I am interested in the problem of the aesthetic forms of 'Tenderz', and I hope to examine [[underlined] The disinherited and Gold's reaction to it so that his own position, at a certain point in time, may be roughly defined. It would be most valuable for me if you could tell me something of the spirit in which your novel was written, precisely how it was intended to be tendentious, and what problems you encountered in writing it. I really believe that the 'mechanics' (if that isn't too crude a term) of left-wing literature has been largely overlooked by commentators, and I hope to explore this more fully - my thesis.
