Summary Order, Aug. 4, 1791, to Gerard Bancker, New York state treasurer, directing the payment of £29-19-0 to Samuel Lewis. This amount covered Tayler's services in paying the annual rent of the Oneida and Cayuga Indians as authorized by the governor.

Biographical/Historical Note Agent to the New York state commissioners of Indian affairs from 1788, state senator, lieutenant governor, acting governor, regent and chancellor. While trading at Lake George and Oswego during the French and Indian War until 1771, Tayler became fluent in Indian languages and was involved in a number of Indian-white councils. Later a merchant in Albany, Tayler served during the Revolution in the provincial congress and in the state assembly.
