My Dear Sir
I have your letter of the 1st inst. While in Yokohama I hope you may meet Dr Stuart Eldridge who has resided there for a great many years & was once on Genl Grants Staff. At Hong Kong you will find our Consul Mr. Hunt a very nice man with a pleasant family, dont fail to call. [[So?]] Consul General McIver of Yokohama is an excellent officer & gentleman, his wife is a daughter of Judge Green of Cedar Rapids, Iowa a charming lady. Messr Morse & St[[?]] of the American Trading Co Yokohama are good men - I think it a good plan to call on our ministers & consuls, generally - At [[Jaypore?]] see their very unique enamel work, & dont fail to buy of [[Namakowa?]] at Kyoto a specimen of his marvellously fine cloisonne. [[Namakowa?]] of Tokio is very fine only different sort - All but these will stand bargaining - they have fixed prices. [[?]]hoya of Yokohama is a good man also [[Minoda?]] of same place.
