Dear Ben
Somehow it seems only natural that I should be in Madrid working on a script for a picture which will probably never be shot in London- & that Spiegel is the corporate umbrella.
The point is that while I was waiting for Sam to fly in from God knows where I wandered into a book store and bought for 35 pesetas (about 54 cts) a copy of Los Actores Son Un Asco by Ben Hecht, "Novelista y Dramaturgo Norteamericano nacido-1893- en Nueva York, etc. etc" End quote. It's a beautiful little red leather edition & I'm betting great working out the Spanish words on Sam's time.
[Above paragraph outlined in red ink with the words For cheated by Experts]
Kathie & the kids are in Switzerland- I still plan to shoot in May in London with Jack Lemmon & Peter Sellers & I now think the picture can be good- maybe even better than good.
For some reason unknown to me Sam is behaving like a gent. (Words to be eaten on the set) He's up to his ass in Arabs & connivings with Columbia- & thriving.
Saw Feldman's picture "Walk on the Wild Side"- Don't miss it. It's a laugh a minute. Lawrence Harvey plays Sid Gasar & Cauchine is photographed with such difussion that she looks like a dish of tapioca pudding.
I miss you & wish you well- See? Love to Rose & Jenny, & especially to you.
