Biographical/Historical Note Chicago-based publisher of postcards and greeting cards, poetry books, music, calendars, and children's books and games, which operated between 1908 and 1959. Founded by Paul Frederick Volland, the company was notable for its use of new printing processes, including off-set printing and color illustrations, and its collaboration with significant artists and writers. In 1924, P.F. Volland Company merged with the Gerlach Barlow Company and moved some of its offices to the Gerlach Barlow Building in Joliet, Illinois. The Shaw Barton Company purchased the company in 1959 and shut down operations in Joliet.
