Summary Typescript of the author's master thesis on the remarkable differences in the number words and number systems observed in more than 300 Indian languages used north of Mexico. Eells studies the widely divergent numerals of the American Indians, and the different ways in which they were built into number systems, seizing the opportunity to study the evolution of the first primitive mathematical ideas among primitive peoples very little affected by outside influences.
