User-Contributed Transcription What Tommy did at School. Tommy came rushing down stairs on Monday the day after his birthday crying "I am going to school. I am going to school" because his mother said that her birthday present to him would be to let him go to school. Tommy had teased and teased his mother to let him go but his mother thought she would not let him go until he was seven but Tommy could not rest until at the birthday party she told him he might go. So on Monday she dressed him in a pretty unclear and I took him up to a school about two blocks from where they live and then left him with his teacher. His teacher gave him a seat in front of her desk and after he had sitten in his seat, a little while she asked him if he knew his a b c's. He said, "My mama taught those to me when I was five years old and I am six now." The teacher felt relieved to find that he was not bashful because she has had a good deal of experience with some pupils who were bashful. Tommy then asked the teacher if he might draw on the blackboard. So the teacher got a chair, put Tommy on it and told him to write his a b c's. If he did not know them she would put a copy on the board for him.
