back at 12:30 - Bed in P.M. went to read to Chas Evans, who was up & dressed. Went out again at 4, on Cap't. Moton's sailboat, with Cap't Moton, Mr. Gleason, Miss Mary Clark & her brother, Miss Davis, Miss Adams & her sister, two Hopkins children. Miss Nettelton went on board the [?Arethuse], French flagship, after great difficulty in getting alongside back at 7:45 - & found some supper, much to our surprise & delight. S.S. lesson a little, then bed. Cool.
Sunday. 23. Cool weather still. C.E. Meeting Sunday School did not go very well. Bed all afternoon, until meeting of Prayer Meeting Committee. Went to chapel, and then, very unexpectedly, out with the choir, the General, Miss Cleveland +c. to serenade the ships - 9-11:30. Philadelphia first, Star Spangled Banner, I'll be There, Heaven light +c. Blake, God save the Queen +c General Admiral, Russian Hymn +c. then the Kaiser in August, Watch on the Rhine - Say a little to the Italians & French. Well received everywhere. Had something to eat at Mr. Turners on return. Miss Davis, Mr Brown, Miss Nettelton, Mr Turner & I - Bed was very welcome.
Monday. 24. Cool, beautiful weather - Breakfast 10 minutes earlier than usual. Our table went in the chariot to the Fort to see the ships go out - a finfe sight. 15 of our White Squadron - 4 English - 2 Russian - 3 French
