Paul forwarded this church on his 2nd missionary journey - Corinth was noted for wealth and wickedness -

This epistle written at Ephesus on 3rd journey. Apollos had been preaching at Corinth with great success, but had returned to Ephesus. Paul writes to rebuke the church for party spirit, for neglecting to punish a very wicked member, & for giving to law against each other - before heathen courts - In answer to their inquiries, he instructs them about marriage relations, meat offered to idols, the Lord's Supper, special gifts, church services, & the resurrection. He plans to go through Macedonia & Greece on his way to Jerusalem & bids them have a collection ready for him to take to the poor Christians at Jerusalem. He has sent Timothy & Erastus to them by way of Macedonia, but sends the letter by a non direct route, so that it will reach them before the arrival of Timothy & Erastus -
