Jan. 8. Monday. Clear and warm. Sent off letters to Pater, Ralph, Ethel and Nettie, Reed letter from Annie and Temperance Leaflet from Miss Guernsey. Spent most of the day at work in the Qualitative Analysis Laboratory doing four unknowns. Concert this evening by the Boston Glee Club, assisted by two ladies and one Baritone. I enjoyed the concert very much as a whole, though the Soprano squealed and wore a very marvelous costume, of blue silk, pink silk and black velvet, not to mention pink artificial flowers. Lizzie Wallace is sick today.
Jan. 9. Colder. A Tuesday like other Tuesdays, hard. M. Marsh and I got out the things for the Cl Experiments this morning. I attempted to give my 10:55 class a thunder and lightning quiz, and found out that they did not know anything, so to speak. We tried to make Prussian blue with various Mn compounds after3:45. Went up to the College this evening for gymnastic appointment and afterwards to prayer meeting. Went to bed very soon after 9 oclock.
Jan. 10. Snow Blow 6 degrees below 0. Drifts. Addie Emerson and Carrie Wheeler both married today. Four letters this morning. From Annie, John, Pater &c, Marie Olmsted (acknowledging Christmas card) - also invitation to Mr and Mrs Horton's golden wedding, next Tuesday. We missed the first coach this morning - rode to the depot & had to wait until the 8:25 coach, losing chapel. I rode down tonight also. 3 classes today and practised Electrolysis of HCL. Wrote a letter to Jack this evening. Annie is elected for Latin Oration for Junior Ex. Three cheers!.
Jan. 11. Thurs. Clear and not very cold. Taught classes this morning- quizzes on H1H2O and H2O2 - as severe as possible. spent the afternoon in practicing the Cl experiments, without a very large measure of success, but with an abundance of suffocation. Mr. Peloubet gave a talk this evening, instead of the regular prayer meeting. After it went to Prof. Niles' lecture. No letters today. Mary Beattie's friend, Miss Potter, arrived at the College today. I have not yet seen her.
Jan. 12. Friday. Cold. We performed the Chlorine experiments today, at 10:55 and 2:55. They were quite successful, but rather suffocating & the room was very cold. Went to prayer meeting.
Brought up my new waist from Miss Townshend's this P.M.
