User-Contributed Transcription How awful the loss of little Fern must be to her parents. I do feel so sorry for them. At three years she must have been so cunning + then taken so suddenly.
How I fear these contagious diseases and there is so much danger from them in the cities.
Our Dr. Harrison was at John Hopkins, this year + his sister in the Woman's College at the same time + he thinks he remembers meeting Maynard.
You were very good to write to [[?]] when you were in so much trouble. How much you have passed through + me dear down here away from it all. It does seem too bad.
We would so much have loved to have seen the dear old Father again but we could not come.
It will never seem like home without him.
We do not know whether we will come north this summer or not. if we are to stay here another year It depends on circumstances
