Dear Brother
I received your most welcome letter yesterday. It was welcome as your letters always are, and also as it contained twenty five dollars, which I much needed, and for which I am very much obliged to you. I will enclose the note you desired. You shall have the money in about 3 months.
I have not been at Church this afternoon, but have slept near three hours instead. I am not exactly well. In the first place I had a bad cold before examination, was out night to the Prize Declamations &c. &c. Wed. examination was very cold & rainy. We had to sit for 8 hours right off, on those awful hard seats, I usually stand studying in the Chemical Lecture room to be 'screwed' & bored by a set of jackasses. When I got out with my 'Junior ticket,' didn't my head ache some? Eh? However I laid down and got asleep for an hour or two, got up, felt better. Went to the Class Supper. 8 or 9 oclock till past 12. Then walked half doz miles & talked some, to work it off. Bed at 3 till 9. Got up pretty. Invited by Bradbury to go up to Lewiston, 20 miles, with him, take carriage back, no expense. Jumped right in, without [[eating?]] - East at Lewiston, 4 oclock. Lewiston is beautiful place, falls & most picturesque I ever saw, rambled about, came home in evening. Thursday, Freshman Examination. Eve. their supper. Freshman bonfire, quarrell with Prof Smyth about it. It did not get to burning till past 3. I went to bed at 5 oclock, slept two hours. Great excitement all day in the trials of the Mutinous Freshmen. Friday night, could not sleep well for certain abdominal pains, and sweats
