Illinois                                                                                      Sabbath Eve, April 18, 1852Dear Antoinette                It is just ten o clock P.M. I have just returned from Meeting, which was quite unusually protracted to night. But I think I must wrote a bit of a letter to you before I go to sleep. Sabbath day you know is my day to write letters to you and my Mother. And if I do not do it tonight, I might neglect in among the business of the week. The Methodists have had a Sabbath School Convention here in Jonesboro today, commenced on Friday last. There are an abundance of their preachers, both local and itinerant from all this part of the State present here. Some of them preach pretty well, and some of them call for some slight exercise of Charity I think.  The one who preached this evening, A Tailor from Nottingham England, a Local preacher at Marion in this State I liked pretty well. Plainly without advantages of early education, he is evidently a student, probably a hard student, and being young, I consider really promising. One very serious fault though he had tonight he tried to speak too long; it seemed almost two hours, and was certainly an hour too long!I have heard three sermons preached today which is something quite unusual here, besides attending Lore? feast, and hearing various speeches and exhortations from the different preachers and others who had been present
