User-Contributed Transcription And we do not as yet receive any direction, though long since expected, except simply "Be in readiness} Of course, it does not do for me to leave upon any pretext. It is getting to be so late too; if the work is to on here this Season, it must be commenced before long, and it will not do for me to be absent until that time.So I am waiting, Waiting - getting really somewhat out of patience; but at the same time getting every thing in the best possible state of preparation to leave. In fact I have been hard at work all the time, and should be if ever so long. Mr. Ashley tells me I must almost unavoidably wait till summer, and rehearses the many conveniences and necessities of delay, and what he calls the impracticability of going East at this Season. But I refuse as yet to give it up, and if our "Orders" should arrive tomorrow, I should probably start on the next day. I did expect to get to New Hampshire and Maine before the first of March. If I do not get there this Spring, I shall count the days until my promised Summer vacation, I assure you."My Minister" preached today, Mr. Stewart, the Presbyterian Clergyman of whom I wrote to you, and I had quite a treat you may be certain. He has preached here in town but a few times, having no Church, and not wishing to interfere with the regular services of the other Ministers. Today the Baptist Minister is sick and Mr. Stewart has taken his place. He is really quite a preacher for this country, and I believe is very much liked by the people here.
