User-Contributed Transcription Ducoigne, Sept 17, 1854(Isaac - Dunbarton Sept. 30 1854Sabbath, Sept 17. 1854. Ducoign Ill.Dearest WifeLast Tuesday as I went North I received your letter of Aug. 26th--30th--and read it as I rode along on the Engine. Yesterday I received your letter of Sept. 1--5th as I came South, and read it as I rode on the Hand Car. With the last come also the Daguerrotype, for which I thank you very much. I think it is a very good one. But I though you were to get a large one. I do not believe this cost $10.00 Perhaps though you had not so much money to spare. I ought to have sent you some more before now. However this is worth more than X or XX to me.It seems the letters are not all regular exactly--if they all arrive at last. The sometimes get misplaced in their order. Yours I believe have never come to me so, the last first; but they are sometimes delayed and two come together. You wonder Saturday night whether Charles is with me. He always is. Always in this little office out of work hours--seated in one of the high stools at the big table just behind my back as I sit at my desk. He has his bed fixed up up stairs; and lives as well as work in this building; going out only to his meals. You wonder whether I read, write, or think. Well some considerable of both each. If I have but just come in on Saturday night I have various letters, statements & reports to read; and not a little to write in arranging & finishing up the week's work. Of course too there is some thinking about tit all. --and when it is through with--I am very apt to be tired--as business man ought to be--and go to bed straight away. Here--them over
