You know I have always thought even Mayo looked well enough so that it was not necessary to hurt him seriously in dressing him to look wellBy the way Ettie you ought to pay the Expenses of your trip to Milo and Brownville, horse hire etc. best horse & most comfortable carriage to be got at the stables; and no more than fair for you to pay all the expense - no matter who goes with you. No fear of your money holding out. Your Credit is good with Eliab who is my Banker, or Samuel either. I left $400.00 with Furber & Metcalf, and perhaps may send on more by Charles, not reckoning that spent before you get there. Spend money for any thing you want for yourself or others. You know how I prefer you should spend money rather than spend yourself. I wont object to your spending all the money you please even for others, as you know; but I do not like you to spend yourself for any thing.Dear Ettie this is a long & silly letter - but you must excuse it for you know there is only half of me -- less than half I guess --- here now to write letters. Write me letters long & often all about my Ettie & my Mayo and about all the rest of the folks.Do not let Mayo tumble out of bed.
