Ind.                                                                       Sabbath June 6, 1852Dear Antoinette                             I wrote I believe a hasty scrawl to you just as I started from Jonesboro, week before the last. So you will not be surprise to hear of me at most any where I suppose.I have had a fine Journey so far, no very remarkable adventures, but a good deal of the quiet enjoyment of travelling.  One misfortune I met with though. The horse I started with, quite a valuable one, was taken sick on the road, with the distemper it is called. I was afraid I should lose him, and at any rate I could not bear to wait in the miserable place for him to get well. So my made my first effort at the Yankee accomplishment of "swapping". and traded off my beautiful, but sick horse for an old codger which carries me along tolerably well, slowly, and which I can at least give away when I get tired of riding. I have come through Union, Williamson, Franklin, Hamilton & White Counties. Illinois; and Posey, Gibson, Pike, Davies, Martin, Lawrence, Jackson, Brown & Bartholemew in this State. The first Sabbath I spent at Carmi,  White Co. Ill. and heard both a Methodist and a HardSide Baptist preach powerfully in the Old Court House. This Morning I rode ten or twelve miles to Church!
