I had relied so confidently upon it that I hardly knew how to be reconciled. I got one (bit of a latter) from you written only two or three days after I left Bangor which arrived here a week ago yesterday & I thought surely I would get another yesterday. But we cannot rely upon regular mails I suppose I got back here pretty late & pretty tired, and really needed something to comfort me. It has been very warm weather. I left here on Thursday Morning, spent the day about on the Line in extreme sun shine, paying off Men etc. Near Night, & near Muddy River, found "Express Train" just starting up with Mr. Mason who had got along earlier than expected. I staid at Big Muddy that night and the next day went clear to Centralia with Mr. Mason, and yesterday came back here leaving Centralia at 10 A.M. & reaching here at 11 1/2 PM With my horses at any rate pretty well tired out. However I presume they rested well after it; at any rate I did. Mr. Bird is still absent. This A.M. I read at Church an excellent sermon by L. Sabin or Templeton Mass upon
