User-Contributed Transcription Ill. Central at Chicago.Went to the State House, I watched the progress of events there most all day long. Some Rail Road Charter Bills in which I feel an interest, St. Louis and Paducah R.R. John Logan of Benton seems the great man from Southern Illinois. Spoke to him. He said this Bill designated no point of intersecting Ill. Central. We of course want it at DuQuoin. Osborn of Perry to whom Mr Keyes gave me a letter, professes to be in DuQuoin Interest. He wants a road from Belleville, through Pinskneyville to Ill. Central which would come to DuQuoin.The Third House, or Lobby is much the larger. So many from all parts of the State wanting some thing or other, Benj. Wiley; the 'Cate rev" Mr Phillips, Land agent, and Land Speculator, &c. Well, I spent about all the day there; Afternoon and Evening was about all political speech making upon Slavery question, & governor's message.J. Condit Smith went to Chicago Saturday P.M. to stay only over Sabbath; and to my convenience R.B. Mason, whom I want to see, is expected here on Monday night.Sabbath day, I went out early, and looked into several Churches before Meeting time. Finally stopped in the Third Presbyterian Church; the Pastor of which is I believe a Mr Dodd. New School. I did not
