User-Contributed Transcription and after Breakfast retired again to my little cot and spend most of the remaining forenoon in reading the Independent.I got several Books at St Louis "Sunlight through the Mist" I have to M.E. Roots as I came back after reading it in the way. An evangelical Episcopal Book for Children. Mrs Beecher Stowe's "Sunny Memories"--I don't know as I shall have time to read it--Have you not ere this got it & read it--Write to me about it. --"My Schools & Schoolmasters" Hugh Miller's Autobiography I talk of giving to Mitchell if he will read it--or perhaps I shall too--Dickens "Hard Times"--Ruskin's "Lectures on Art Nature & Painting"--author you remember of Books Anne was praising so much at Elyria "Stones of Venice" "Seven Lamps of Architecture" I do mean to find some time to read--have not however so far this summer. My leisure from business has been only to read the Newspapers & to write to Ettie--By the way, you have plenty of time to read this summer & I hasn't. Why do you not read some books which JJ have read, & you have not, and write to me about them? Would it not be a good plan for both of us?Oh My Dearest Wife Ettie, who will you not send me a really good Daguerrotype picture of your own nice little Self--about a V worth at least--perhaps a full length--in a light frame or case to send by mail. Do Ettie--Come, I would give more than that to please my Ettie--and you need not grudge just a V or X worth to send to me.Charles has hardly decided yet when to return East. Colling Dunham has left the Road & gone home East. Oh Ettie! How like a heathen I do live here--only to think of it here ever since the 2d week in June most three months--I believe I have heard but one single sermon preached--That is all the has been preached at DuQuoin except by Methodists. To be sure I have been obliged to read some sermons myself Now - think of it--how I do need an Ettie to take care of me I am getting still more careless about going to Meeting keep me good--I do not know but I ought to have gone down to Meeting today.--but then I was tired & sleepy and did not feel a bit like Reading a long hard sermon to em. Good Bye, Isaac
