I told Charles not to write to the folks in Maine about it, and I thought I would not write it even to you at first, and write the whole letter without mentioning it. You know how afraid all Eastern People are of the Ague, what a dreadful thing all think it; and it hardly seemed worth the while to disturb & frighten everybody, and make them think me horrible sick when I was not. But I thought it wasn't hardly right to keep even that a secret from my Ettie, even though it did not amount to anything. I would not like to have her serve me so And so I put in this Postscript. You see I made myself sick eating too many peaches last Sunday. Bought some for a dollar
