User-Contributed Transcription I.S.M. GoffstownMarch 25. 1849                                                                                                                              Sabbath March 25th 1849Dear Mother & Sister Lucy and other folks at MiloYou can see by the date above when I write, Where perhaps I cannot quite as well explain. I believe it is in the South West corner of Goffstown or perhaps "West Goffstown". New Hampshire. If not within the limits of West Goffstown, it must be in "West Boston", or in "East Ware." The place is called "Parkers," and it is very near a Post Office called "Oil Mill Village". Perhaps it is enough that it is on or near the line of the New  "New Hampshire Central Rail Road," so called; whereof I begin to suspect that I am, or am like to be an Engineer. There, that will do for a preamble!Well. Yesterday was Saturday, but I did not get home last night, not even to Bangor, although I very much expected first of the week that I should. I thought I would not write that I was coming home; and so take you somewhat by surprise; but now I do not know when I may get a chance to go.I got through on the Vermont & Mass. R.R. about the 15th  or 17th Inst. For a week or two before I got through, I had little to do but ride round on the Rail Road, perhaps be down at Fitchburg every day, settling up & arranging matters with the Contractors with whom I had to do to Fitchburg, be there in "business hours" and go back at night! Ride one hundred or one hundred & fifty miles per day.I went to Royalston and spent one Sabbath, March11th. Folks pretty well there. Uncle same as ever. His new wife is a large fine looking woman, I do not judge however that she is in every respect a quite Equal to his last wife. Samuel is at home, and apparently doing nothing. He is a little inclined to be one, of that large class of "Soured Men"
