User-Contributed Transcription I.S.M. GoffstownJan. 5, 1851 Goffstown, N.H. Jan. 5, 1850Dear Mother I received your kind letter yesterday I think after expecting it a good while. Of course I need not say how much good "Mother's Letter" always do me. I am really glad to hear that you are going to Hampden, for I do believe that you will enjoy a visit there. I am by no means sure that you ought not to spend most of your time with Lucy. You could not help being happier with her than with Albina. If so you certainly should; for I know of nothing in the World to confine you in any place, but where your children are. I believe you think you are growing old. Now I think moving about is much more essential for Old folks than for the young: they ought to spend their time mostly in visiting their children. Did you ever hear of an old proverb that Mothers always like their daughter's husbands better than their Son's wives? Isn't it somewhat true?If so you had better live with Lucy much of the time until I get married. But I intend some time to get a wife so superlatively super excellent you will be so pleased with her as to want to live with us most all of the time! I hope you will not be too impatient for the time to come! for I hardly know where to find her yet, and I want of course to be very sure.
