User-Contributed Transcription Here. June 2d 1850Dear Mother & Lucy, I do not know but we ought to have written last week, but you know that things there go on so still and straight that there is not much to write about: and then besides it must be remembered that this is with farmers a very busy season of the year! The Valise and letters came safe to hand Friday night and gladdened us much. We expect Lucy will get well enough by last of this week, or first of next, to come up here with you and stay quite a spell to recruit her health. Joseph has left Homeopathy, and partly Hydropathy, and now makes vigorous and frequent assaults upon a big earthen pan full of syrup & sarsaparilla which I have prepared, besides munching an occasional sprig of Pipsissewa, to say nothing of figs & Maple Sugar which Eliab sent up; and just now a Juniper limb. You will readily perceive that in most of these I can afford him some assistance so as to get along faster and better, and we expect to have him get well right away. Moreover sine the Botany Books came up he is going into the study & examinations of Plants & flowers right and left diligently. In this last we especially want the presence and cooperation of Lucy, whom we hereby request you to bring up as soon as may be convenient.
